A croquet club associated with the Crake Valley has been in existence since 1897. The Club has been on our present site by the Greenodd roundabout in South Lakeland since the early 1900’s.
Crake Valley Croquet Club has strong Croquet Association traditions having previously hosted representative matches between England and Scotland in the late 1990’s.
The Club features in the Guinness Book of Records for the most hoops scored (402) in 24 hours (with Southport in 2000) and previously in 1997 (370 hoops with Belsay Hall).
In 2022, the Club celebrated its 125th Anniversary and to mark the occasion a booklet, “Crake Valley Croquet Club – the First 125 years”, was published providing a fascinating history of the way the Club has developed over that period. This booklet is still available and details of how to order a copy can be found here.
Crake Valley Croquet Club maintains an active interest in many of the North West Federation of Croquet Clubs’ activities, and our teams continue to feature competitively in both Association Croquet and Golf Croquet Leagues. Players from the Club also participate in many regional and national tournaments and competitions.
In addition to interacting with many local groups keen to learn more about the game of croquet, the Club runs a series of taster sessions giving tuition from fully qualified coaches on the basics of playing croquet. These activities are designed primary to provide an informative and friendly croquet experience from which new players may be encouraged to become Club members.
